December 30th 2008 07:06
The Kidney stones get into the urinary tract blocking the urinary bladder. The blood in the urine is either due to growth of stone or its movement through the bladder. Moreover, as the stone moves down the ureter and closer to bladder, one may feel urge to urinate often and may have burning sensation while urinating.

The Common diagnostic tools for Kidney stones are ultrasound, intra-venous pyelogram (uses a series of x-rays with contrast dye) or a CT Scan. The CT Scan is used to locate the stones in the lower part of the ureter.

December 21st 2008 07:44
Kidney stones are calcium compound stones, usually oxalate or phosphate compounds of calcium or struvite stones, composed of magnesium and ammonium phosphates or uric acid stones or cystine stones. Over 90% of stones are calcium based and rest is uric acid. One of the leading factors responsible for formation of stones is inadequate intake of water or dehydration. Urine comprises of water and salts. When the fluid or water intake is less, these salts crystallize and form stones. Anyone can have kidney stones. It is primarily found in men and is being diagnosed among women too. Individuals of previous history of stones are likely to develop them again. There will be severe pain in the back or flank or groin, depending on the location of the stone in the ureter.

Endorphins

December 20th 2008 07:19
Endorphins are the chemicals present in brain that have a ‘feel good’ effect. These are natural opiates produced in the brain that have an analgesic effect on the human body. In fact, when the endorphin levels are raised in the blood stream it creates a feeling of ‘feel good’. When these hormones are produced in the body they have a natural health benefit – they reduce stress, help in tolerating pain, boost the immune system, delay ageing process and help fight food cravings. They are produced in the body by various activities such as exercise, meditation, laughter and eating some foods such as chocolates and Chilli Peppers.
