Control Dandruff

April 30th 2011 04:41
A few lifestyle modifications, constant hair care, healthy habits and a balanced diet can keep your scalp dandruff-free.

The simplest treatment is frequent and effective shampooing of the hair and the scalp. Mild dandruff can be treated by regularly shampooing the scalp with a mild, non-medicated shampoo. If this does not help, a medicated dandruff shampoo can be used.

Stop using styling products from gels to hairsprays in your hair. These hair styling products pose a potential threat by drying the scalp. Natural alternatives like henna may be of help for hair colouring.

Talk to your doctor about getting a prescription dandruff shampoo and discuss other ways to prevent dandruff if the problem persists and over-the-counter dandruff shampoos don't clear it up

Exercise regularly and eat a well-balanced, healthy diet to help control dandruff.

Use anti-dandruff treatment shampoos once a week to start with. If the problem persists, increase the frequency of use.

A diet that provides enough zinc, B-complex vitamins and essential fatty acids may help prevent dandruff. Adopt a well-balanced diet, with emphasis on raw foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Add foods that have natural sulphur to your diet. Cabbages, eggs and onions are such foods.

Condition your hair after every wash. Some may need mild conditioning and some may need deep conditioning, according to their hair texture.

Practice stress reducing methods such as meditation and yoga. These healing treatments can have positive effects on physical health and your hair condition too.

Dandruff is a result of a dry scalp and poor hygiene. A few changes in your diet and your lifestyle and hygiene will help to improve the condition of your hair.

Eyelashes and Eyebrows

April 19th 2011 18:04
The cilia or eyelashes are hairs situated on the margin of the lids. They are dispensed in two rows, totalling about 100-150 cilia in the ipper lid and half the number in the lower lid.

The pigmentation of the cilia is deeper than that of the scalp hair throughout adult life.

The average life of each cilium is from 3-5 months after which it falls out and a new one grows in to take its place. If the cilia is pulled out the new one replacing it reaches full size in about 2 months. Since the life of the cilia is only 3-5 months, it does not grow as long as scalp hairs.

Small organs in the skin, called follicles produce hair. All follicles go through a three-stage cycle- anagen is a period when the hair grows actively; catagen is marked by a short phase during which growth winds down; and finally telogen is the stage of rest. The cycle is completed at the end of telogen and the hair falls and a new hair begins to grow.

Scalp hairs (hairs on the head) have the longest anagen period - four to eight years during which they grow and have just two to four months of rest stage.

Eyelashes, arm hair, and most other hairs on the body have significantly shorter growth periods of one to six months, followed by a 2-4 month period of rest.

That is why these hairs are shorter and appear to grow to a fixed length. Thus the length of time that the hair is able to spend growing during the growth phase controls the maximum length of the hair.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

April 9th 2011 02:45
Arthritis is a very painful chronic illness. Arthritis that occurs in people under the age of 16 is referred to as Juvenile arthritis. "Juvenile arthritis" covers a number of different types of arthritis in children. The most prevalent type is called "juvenile idiopathic arthritis" or JIA, and also called "juvenile rheumatoid arthritis" (JRA) or "juvenile chronic arthritis" (JCA).

A child can be struck by this disease at any age from babies onwards it may present with only mild symptoms or it may start with a severe full blown attack. Many children while suffering some discomfort and pain from this disease are able to get on with normal lives. However for others it can be a very debilitating condition accompanied by pain and limited mobility in everyday activities. As there is still no cure for juvenile arthritis we can only treat the symptoms in an effort to limit pain and damage to joints and other tissue. For some children the symptoms of arthritis may disappear for a time or the arthritis may even go into remission entirely. Other will continue to have arthritis into their adult years.

Dry Eyes

April 3rd 2011 09:22
Dry eye syndrome is a common problem caused by the tear film that lubricates the eyes. Tear films are made of three layers : The outer mucus layer which helps to coat the cornea, the middle aqueous layer which provides moisture and supplies oxygen and nutrients to the cornea and the inner lipid or oily layer that seals the tear film on the eye and helps prevent evaporation.

Tears are formed in several glands around the eyes. Water is secreted by the lacrimal glands, located under the upper eyelids
