Venous stasis refers to a situation where the veins in the legs are unable to take blood back to heart due to injuries caused to veins. It is a condition in which flow of blood in the veins becomes very slow, usually in the legs. Such a person will be more prone to blood clots due to long periods of immobility of blood flow.
Basically venous stasis means that the blood flow in the body is slowed down which could be due to hypercoagulability of blood that is blood is more viscous. This could lead to thrombosis (clots) anywhere in the body. Basically anticoagulants could be given. If the patient is on bed then bilateral stalking could be put. Venous stasis will cause swelling in the feet and legs. The most common solutions for this is rest, elevation and using compression stockings to help with blood flow.
